Now those of you who know me know that I am not a fan of our new President. I don't agree with his politics, most of his ideas....basically anything....... But I felt pretty bad for him. Yesterday he had a city hall meeting in Florida (this is not the one on prime time last night - he was in Indiana for that one) and they opened it up for the public to ask questions. Now, keep in mind, this is probably the only time these people will ever be in the same room as the President of the United States (whether I like him or not, you have to respect the position) let alone be able to ask him questions. So what kinds of things to they ask?? One woman explains that her car isn't very good and her house isn't very nice - so she needs a new house and a new car. What is the president going to do about getting her these things. One man explains that he is in his second semester at a state college in Florida and he has been working at McDonald's for 4 years. He can't get another job that will work with his school schedule because of the recession, but he isn't getting the kind of benefits he thinks he deserves for being such a long term employee. What is the president going to do to fix this? Yet another man explained that he lost his job and couldn't understand why unemployment doesn't pay him what he was making while he was working. What is the president going to do to fix this? There are many other examples, but needless to say, I was embarrassed by the American public. What has our country come to when we use our once in a lifetime question to the president to beg for a new car and benefits at McDonald's?? Have we really gotten to the point where we need to beg the government because we want a new car!! Can people really not understand that the government should not be held responsible for a person losing their job, and if they did pay for unemployment what people who work got paid, no one would want to work!!! Get off you butt, work hard, save up, and then get a new car, like any responsible person!! I felt bad for Obama because he didn't really know what to say to them. . . I mean, what do you say? "Uh, I'm sorry you want a new car and you don't get benefits - we are doing everything we can." At the same time, I can't help but feel that Obama sort of brought this upon himself. During his campaign he kept promising that he would put gas in our tanks, give us homes and jobs and cars and money. That the government would solve all of our problems. Now people are expecting him to do precisely that. I personally believe that man is to earn his bread by the sweat of his brow - not by the handout of the government. Just my thoughts - Take 'em or Leave 'em!
